Could Not Connect to Monitor Station

Modified on Wed, 3 Sep, 2014 at 11:37 AM

Solution A: Start Play Attention at the master monitor station, then restart Play Attention on your student station.

**If LogMeIn Hamachi is being used, ensure it is turned on before starting Play Attention**

Solution B:  Check Monitor Station ID.

Master Monitor

1. Start Play Attention and log-in as username: system  password: admin

2. Hover your mouse over the <Home> menu, and look for the IP address at the bottom of the Play Attention window (e.g. http://192.155.12.1:8000).

3. Make note of the IP number.

Student Station

1. Start Play Attention and log-in as username: system  password: admin

2. Go to the <System> menu and choose <Setup>.

3. Click <Lab> option.

4. Cross reference IP number noted from master station with Monitor Station ID shown here.

5. Make necessary changes so the numbers match.

6. Port A, B, & C should be listed as 8001, 8002, & 8003.

7. Click <Submit>.

8. If you are taken back to the log-in screen with no error, connection was successful.

Solution C: Check Firewall Settings

If you are running only Windows Firewall, pa_network_config can write your firewall rules based

on your network configuration. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Restart your computer

2. Open <Computer> and follow path: Disk C:/ProgramFiles/PlayAttention/PA5

3. Run <pa_network_config.exe>.

4. Select <Configure for both> option. Click <OK>.

5. Click <Setup>.

6. Click <Update Firewall>. Wait for the update to finish.

7. Click <Done>.

8. Wait for pa_network_config to finish updating, click <Done>.

When you are having a connection issue, it is recommended that you do this on both the

monitor station and the student station you are trying to connect to.

Third Party Firewall

A third party firewall cannot be updated automatically by pa_network_config.  Rules for the

firewall will need to be written manually.

Play Attention by default runs on any available IP on port 8000.  Play Attention uses ports

8001 to send and receive game data, 8002 to Observe a game in Realtime, and (optionally)

8003 to review behavior after a game.  These ports should be opened over your network.

Play Attention will require the following programs to be allowed through the firewall to

function properly:

web2py.exe

prism.exe

freerlogic.pa.stamina.exe

freerlogic.tracking.exe

freerlogic.pa.mindmaze.exe

freerlogic.pa.starflyer .exe

freerlogic.pa.slang.exe

freerlogic.pa.python.exe
