Chat Video Doesn't Load

Problem: The student's chat video does not load on the Master Monitor's screen. 

Solution A. Check that the ports are set correctly on the Student station.


1. Start Play Attention and log-in as username: system  password: admin

2. Go to the <System> menu and choose <Setup>. 

3. Click <Lab> option. 

4. Port A, B, & C should be listed as 8001, 8002, & 8003. 

5. Make corrections if needed - click <Submit>. 

6. Log-in as a test/demo student to run a game and test the Watch feature. 


Solution B. Update firewall through pa_network_config tool. Complete process on both Master and Student station.  


If you are running only Windows Firewall, pa_network_config can write your firewall rules based

on your network configuration. To do this, follow these steps:


1. Restart your computer

2. Open <Computer> and follow path: Disk C:/ProgramFiles/PlayAttention/PA5 

3. Run <pa_network_config.exe>.

4. Select <Configure for both> option. Click <OK>.

5. Click <Setup>.

6. Click <Update Firewall>. Wait for the update to finish.

7. Click <Done>. 

8. Wait for pa_network_config to finish updating, click <Done>. 



Solution C. Manually add firewall rules to each effected computer. Restart the computer(s) either before or after completing this process. 


Windows Vista:

  •     Go to Ctrl Panel, Windows Firewall.  Allow Program through Firewall.
  •     Click Add Program, browse to and add C:\Program Files\PlayAttention\PA5\web2py\web2py.exe
  •     Click Add Program, browse to and add C:\Program Files\PlayAttention\PA5\Prism\prism.exe
  •     Click Add Port, name it pa_open and enter port 8000.  Click Okay.
  •     Click Add Port, name it pa_game1 and enter port 8001.  Click Okay.
  •     Click Add Port, name it pa_game2 and enter port 8002.  Click Okay.
  •     Click Add Port, name it pa_open and enter port 8003.  Click Okay.
  •     If any of these exceptions have already been added, Make sure the check box is checked to allow the exception through.

Windows 7:

  •     Go to Control Panel > System and Security > Windows Firewall
  •     Click Advance Settings
  •     Click Inbound Rules
  •     Click New Rule.  This will start the New Rule Wizard.
  •     For rule type, select Port.  Click Next
  •     in Protocol and Ports, leave settings the same, and enter 8000-8003 in Specific Local Ports.  Click Next
  •     In Action, make sure Allow the Connection is selected.  Click Next.
  •     Under Profile, make sure all three boxes are checked, click Next.
  •     Under Name, enter pa_open.  Click Finish.
  •     Click New Rule.
  •     For Rule type, select Program.
  •     Under This program path, browse to  C:\Program Files\PlayAttention \PA5\web2py\web2py.exe.  Click Next.
  •     In Action, make sure Allow the Connection is selected.  Click Next.
  •     Under Profile, make sure all three boxes are checked, click Next.
  •     Under Name enter pa_web2py.  Click finish.
  •     Repeat this process.  For rule type select Program.  For the program path, browse to C:\Program Files\PlayAttention\PA5\Prism\prism.exe  For the name, enter pa_prism.
