When you see "App Could not Connect..."

Modified on Mon, 05 Aug 2019 at 12:52 PM

Occasionally you may see a warning displayed that states the "app could not connect to the server, check your internet connection." If you check your internet and you are able to access other websites etc., then the issue may be on the cloud server itself.  If you are about to start a session with your student, there is something you can do to quickly get setup for a session. See the steps below to switch from iCloud based iLab to Local Networked iLab.

While the server connection issue persists database Backup/Restore functions will not work. Nor will you be able to "Check for Updates." But, all of your Student's session data will be safely saved locally, and when the connectivity issue is resolved all your data will be uploaded and synchronized to the cloud server. We would like to know when you experience this problem, so please call us ( 828-676-2242,) or email us at techsupport@playattention.net.

Switch from iCloud to Local iLab

On the computer where the coach will monitor all students. Log in as system/admin and go to the System Settings

You can also enable iLab and set the master station from the login screen by clicking the "iLab Settings" button in the upper left corner.

When prompted, select the Enabled button on the iLab Settings

This is your Master Machine (the Coaches station,)  so make certain to also select Master Machine in the iLab Settings. You will have to enter a name for your iLab, this can be anything but keep it simple like your name or business name.

Once you set up your Master Machine, all of your iLab environment information will be displayed on the login screen. If you do not know your IP address, click on the iLab environment info tab to see your IP address. You will need this information for all of your student stations.

All student computers will connect to this by changing the settings on those PCs. Be sure to make sure that iLab is enabled, Master Monitor should NOT be enabled, and the iLab Name selected should be changed from iCloud to the name you created on the master Monitor.  Make sure to save your settings changes by clicking on the "Apply" button.

You can now login as a Coach on the Master Machine, have the students login on their student stations and run sessions normally.
