How to Upgrade from PA 5
Step One -- Backup PA5
First be aware that you will need to manually migrate your User data from the old version of PA into the new PA6 installation. In order to do this a backup of the entire database in ZIP format is required. Follow the steps below in order to generate the necessary file.
Personal Backup via Play Attention (This operation is the same for both Windows and Mac users.)
1) Log-in to Play Attention as a coach (or username: system password: admin)
2) Go to System menu, click Manage Users
3) Scroll to bottom of page, click Export Database
4) Click Export
5) A separate window will appear, choose Save File, click OK
6) File saves as "exported.zip" to the Desktop, or Downloads folder.
Step Two -- Install PA6 for WindowsThis is the file that you will use to migrate your User data into the new PA6 installation.
This step cannot be done in reverse. You will not be able to take data from PA6 and use it in PA5. So, if you think you may want to continue using PA5 for any reason we suggest that you maintain your copy of the PA5 database export after importing the data into PA6. Keeping the file on a jump drive or in a folder on your Windows Desktop is a good idea.
- Open PA6 and log in using 'System Admin' privileged credentials. (The default System Admin account uses "system" for username and "admin" for password.)
- Click on the System Admin menu at the top right of the screen and click on Export/Import Data
- Scroll down to the 'Import/Merge' feature and click on
- Select the 'exported.zip' file that you saved earlier from PA5. And then click the 'Open' button on the lower left.
- It may take a few minutes for the data to unzip and load into the Export tool. Be patient. Click on the 'Select Users' field. And then select each student or coach you would like to import.
Once you have all the users from the file selected then click
