Setting up Your Play Attention iLab - Best Practices

1. Software Installation

  • Always install new software or updates before beginning device pairing or daily sessions.

  • Restart the computer after installation to ensure the software and drivers load correctly.

2. Device Pairing & Daily Setup

  • Power on and pair one system at a time.

  • Scan and confirm the correct device is connected.

  • Once confirmed, turn the BodyWave system off before turning on the next system.

  • This one-at-a-time process reduces pairing confusion and makes it easier to isolate issues.

What You Will See When Scanning:

  • Without a dongle:
The device will appear in the scan list, and the MAC address will be displayed underneath the device name.

  • With a dongle:
The device will appear in the scan list, and the COM port being used will be displayed underneath the device name.

3. Dongle Pairing Best Practices

  • Do not swap dongles between devices.
Each dongle should remain dedicated to its assigned device.

HW8 Devices

  • Dongles are permanently paired to the device.

  • They should always remain together as a matched set.

  • Labeling devices and dongles is strongly recommended to prevent mix-ups.

HW9 Devices

  • Dongles are not pre-paired.

  • The computer instructs the dongle which device to connect to.

  • For best results, consistently use the same device with the same computer.

4. System Numbering Recommendation

  • Number or label each system and assign it to a specific computer.

  • This consistency greatly simplifies setup and troubleshooting.

5. Daily Startup Tip

At the beginning of each day:

  1. Turn on only one device.

  2. Scan to confirm it is connected to the intended computer.

  3. Once confirmed, turn that device off.

  4. Move on to the next device.

This avoids cross-connections and helps isolate problem units quickly.

6. Battery Warning Clarification

  • If you receive a “Change Battery” message, this is only a suggestion to check the batteries.

  • It does not necessarily mean the batteries are low or need immediate replacement.

7. If You Receive a “No Data for 5 Seconds” Error

Follow these steps to fully reset the system:

  1. Power off the device.

  2. Remove the dongle from the USB port.

  3. Wait 5 seconds.

  4. Reinsert the dongle.

  5. Power the device back on.

This reset often resolves the issue immediately.

Following these best practices will help ensure reliable performance and allow us to more easily identify and resolve issues with specific units. Please let us know if you have any questions or need additional support.
